lack - (v.): be without; to not have something that you need, or not have enough of it... Do not use the verb lack before 'in' or 'of': We lack ideas (NOT We lack of ideas)! This word can also be used as a noun.
  • Synonyms: miss, need, require, want
  • Antonyms: have, be sufficient
  • Origin: 1200, may have existed as unrecorded Old English lac, or been borrowed from Middle Dutch lak "deficiency, fault," from the ancient German word laka
  • Example: If you lack money, you can't buy the things you want!
What kind of job would you like to have someday to avoid a lack of money?
