abridge - (v.): to make something shorter in length, time, size, etc.
  • Synonyms: shorten, abbreviate, clip, limit, decrease
  • Antonyms: lengthen, increase, grow, add on
  • Origin: Fr. abregier  meaning "to shorten," which comes from the Latin word abbreviare meaning "make short" (as in abbreviate)
  • Example: We will have an abridged math lesson today because of Art.
If we had to abridge one subject a day to fit in more math time, what would you choose and why?
