rigid - (adj.): This word is used to describe someone who cannot move, especially because they are very frightened, shocked, or angry. It can also describe someone who is very unwilling to change their ideas or behavior.
  • Synonyms: stiff, inflexible, firm, unbending
  • Antonyms: floppy, flexible, soft
  • Origin: 1538, from L. rigidus "hard, stiff, rough, severe," from rigere "be stiff," from ancient European *reig- "stretch tight"
  • Example: When I was little, I was always afraid to go visit my aunt and uncle because their rules were so rigid!
Do you think it's a good idea when parents make their rules rigid? Why or why not?
