to happen or appear, sometimes in an unexpected way; to become real or become fact
- Word family: matter, material, materialization
- Synonyms: appear, turn up, occur, happen, develop, emerge
- Antonyms: disappear, hide
- Origin: 1386 L. materia meaning "substance from which something is made" (as in matter). The use of the word materialize to mean "appear in bodily form" dates from 1880 as was used when describing spiritualism.
- Example: If you think long and hard, sometimes a fabulous notion will materialize in your head!
A famous artist named Bev Doolittle created the amazing painting, called "Season of the Eagle," below.
I have only shown you half of it. Click on the image, and not only will the entire painting materialize, but so will an avian organism!
IMAGINE:
You have been granted a single wish. Whatever you want the most will materialize on the desk in front of you. What would it be, and what would happen if the thing you wished for really did appear on your desk?

What I would want to materialize on my desk is a little kitten. If it did REALLY happened I would be nonchalant about it because kittens don't harm anyone!

My wish would be to have my own laptop and my own little puppy. If it showed on my desk in class....
I bet they will put the dog outside and have a notion that I stole one of the school laptops! That would be a DISASTER! I would be in BIG trouble! (Mrs. Brucker you better to stick up for me!) LOL
