niche - (n.): (Pronounced nitch or neesh) If you find your niche, you find a job or activity that is very suitable for you, or a place that’s all your own. A niche might also be a special little area, like a corner, made to hold something special like artwork.
  • Synonyms: corner, position, spot, place, hole, hiding place
  • Origin: 1611, "shallow recess in a wall," from Fr. niche "doghouse, kennel," This word may have actually come from It. nicchia meaning "nook," which comes from nicchio meaning "seashell," which is probably from the Latin word mitulus "mussel" (like the sea creature), but the change of -m- to -n- is not explained. Another suggestion is that the word is from an Old French noun which comes from nichier which means "to build a nest," which comes from the Latin word nidus meaning "nest," but that is debated, too.
  • Example: I hope that someday you find your niche in this world and get a good, high-paying job!
What do you think your niche will be when you grow up?

My notion that might be my niche when I grow up is a teacher, an artist, an animal keeper, a hair stylist, and a dancer because I'm good at all of them! I LOVE them all!
