convert - (v.): to change something into a different form of thing, or to change something so that it can be used for a different purpose or in a different way (This can also be used as a noun!)
  • Synonyms: modify, revise, remodel, switch, change, translate
  • Antonyms: persist, remain, stay
  • Origin: 1300, from Latin convertere meaning "turn around, transform," from con- "together" + vertere "to turn" (as in versus). Originally in the religious sense. Convertible is from 1385; it began to be used to refer to that style of American cars in 1916.
  • Example: By adding an "n," we can convert the word covert into today's word!
